The daughter of an elderly woman whose body was found in a Tasmanian river this week says she believes in the rapture, and cites religious reasons for objecting to an autopsy.

A devoutly religious woman has failed to stop an autopsy of her mother's body, which was found in a southern Tasmanian river earlier this week.Mrs Fraser's daughter asked that an autopsy not be performed, citing religious reasonsThe body of Stella Joan Fraser, 72, was found on June 8 in the Derwent Valley's River Ouse.

State forensic [athologist Doctor Donald Ritchie told the court that while he thought Mrs Triffitt's belief about how her mother died was likely the case, it was important to rule out foul play. Before the decision was handed down, Mrs Triffitt told the court: "If it's God's desire that will happen, I trust the Lord with it … I do pray things go the right way," she said.In the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Alan Blow said he had weighed up deeply held religious beliefs with a number of arguments advanced by the State's crown counsel."Mrs Triffitt believes the body is precious to God and should not be cut up … [her] mother never had surgery," he said.

"On the other hand [the] State argues there is some possibility of foul play in this case and that an autopsy is reasonably necessary to see if foul play can be ruled out," he said.

Good. Religious privilege must end.

Devoutly mentally disturbed. These fanatics should be placed on a registry.

She did it for the inheritance.

Common sense prevails. Atheist

How is this a news for everyone?

This woman has a whole bunch of cats.

Something here doesn't add up. Hopefully the autopsy will give answers.

Bah, religion.

Religious zealots are trying to return the world to the Middle Ages when church & monarchy were all powerful. This woman is one of many zealots trying to force us to abandon secular living for a life of religious drudgery, warfare, endless childbearing & persecution of minorities

Interesting. Pleased it went ahead.

Suspicious.

Why Aiia Maasarwe’s killer will not be jailed for lifeBREAKING: The man responsible for a brutal unprovoked murder of a woman walking home in Melbourne that shocked the nation won’t be jailed for life. These judges need to go. Punish the crime, not the sob story. Don't make victims of the family of the deceased. Oh well. They got all the facts. I’m sorry. But if you rape, burn someone alive and let them die a slow agonising death- no sob story that he is an aboriginal, stupid, drug, abused, loser factor should be taken into account. Shame on the judge.
