Local clubs reeling from the "sports rort" affair say they have been left feeling they cannot trust Australia's political process after the scandal.

Auditor-General Grant Hehir found this year that there was a "distributional bias" in the way grants were awarded, favouring Coalition and marginal electorates. The club, in Melbourne's north-east, has more than 500 members, and last year applied for a $500,000 federal sports grant to upgrade its facilities, which Mr Purser described as "Third World".

But despite receiving a score of 89 out of 100 in an assessment by the Australian Sports Commission – placing the club on a top priority list to receive the funds – it missed out.The Age.Justin McManus Representatives of six clubs were among more than a dozen people who gave evidence to the Senate committee on Thursday. Attendees included representatives of the Beechworth Lawn Tennis Club and the Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby, two councils, legal experts and the heads of Accountability Roundtable.

You would hope that come the next Federal Election the members of these clubs actively campaign for their local Independent or Minor parties candidates. Although this sportsrorts is LNP driven, we know that the ALP practice the same Porkbarreling techniques

It’s never been about due process, ever. It’s always been about strategic selection for either professional, personal or political gain. That’s never going to change in Australia.

Victorian sports clubs are very slow learners if they are just realising this now.

Elected representatives not, elected crooks yes.

WittaTwitta Cannot trust the Liberal/Nationals coalition you should have written.. mediafail

stop diverting attention from Dan Andrews and his corruption and links to the CCP

Haven't you flogged this story to death yet

Nor, it seems, can they trust their representative body, sportsaustralia which seems only too happy to support the government in the sportsrorts corruption with its convenient inability to recall and outright refusal to testify.

Get over it !!!!!

Ya think

Victorians keep on supporting the Federal Liberal & National parties. You brought this on your selves, similar the areas of NSW & QLD who voted for them, look at yourselves first. You believed the Murdoch media and Mining magnates.

UnQuietAust They can’t. Never trust the LNP. They have a grubby corrupt history.

Who in their right mind would ever trust any political party in the first place? And federal governments should not be funding sport in any case.

Obviously

And what decades of lying about climate change hasn’t done that already?
