Prime Minister Scott Morrison will visit Christmas Island where the government plans to bring sick asylum seekers, rather than mainland Australia.

Asylum seekers accused of murder, inappropriate behaviour and alleged terrorism offences will be sent to Christmas Island if they apply to come to Australia for medical treatment, Prime Minister Scott Morrison will announce on Wednesday.

Fifty seven male detainees have been identified as a"risk" including several accused of murder, inappropriate behaviour and alleged terrorism offences. Most of those have been classed as refugees under the government's processing procedures, including one accused of planning terrorist activities and drug trafficking. Mr Morrison intends to tour the North West Point detention centre and the medical and accommodation facilities while on the island, depending on weather.

"If the Prime Minister was interested in anything other than political posturing, he might make the time to visit Manus island and Nauru and speak to the hundreds of individuals who are suffering without adequate medical care," Mr Newhouse told SBS News. Doctors are holding off making any applications for medical transfers until they triage patients to ensure those in the most need of medical treatment are transferred first.Only a handful of applications are expected to be submitted in the next two weeks, but the government appears to be preparing to transfer people under existing powers under the Migration Act.

Medivac bill will see Australians miss out on treatment: Cormann | Sky News AustraliaFULL INTERVIEW: Mathias Cormann says Australians will be 'kicked out of their houses' and will be forced to wait longer for medical treatment if asylum seekers from Manus Island and Nauru are flown to the mainland under medivac laws.\n\nSo far, no asylum seeker on Manus Island and Nauru has been treated in Australia, despite the passage of the controversial medivac bill last month.\n\nThe legislation, which has yet to receive royal assent, gives doctors a greater say over whether asylum seekers in offshore detention centres can be flown to Australia for treatment, though it still allows the Home Affairs minister to reject transfers on national security grounds.\n\nLabor frontbencher Kristina Keneally has told Sky News the government is engaging in 'fearmongering' over the issue.\n\nMr Cormann says despite Labor's claims, it's a 'fact' that asylum seekers transferred from offshore detention centres would be utilising facilities at the expense of Australians.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n J_C_Campbell That is an utterly atrocious claim from the government. J_C_Campbell But it is true. J_C_Campbell Agree, they have this vote already. The more they go on like this the greater chance of them losing votes. They will only win back votes if they turn positive with policies for the future. Not holding my breath

Lettuce on Christmas Island can cost $15, but an ambitious farmer is changing thatPrevious attempts to grow food on a large scale on Christmas Island, where fresh food is an expensive luxury, have failed. But now an ambitious farmer is fighting the odds, and succeeding. . Considering how many people (stock brokers, bankers, shareholders) earn money without contributing to the wellbeing of people or environment, far more support and attention needs to be given to local farmers who provide people with fresh and healthy produce. .
