Labor spokesman Jason Clare suggested the Coalition's housing policy, which allows young Aussies to access their super to put towards their first home, is a 'desperate act of a dying government' and claimed will increase property prices by six figures.

Labor spokesman Jason Clare has warned the Coalition's plan to allow young Australians access their super to break into the property market"would push prices up".

"In Sydney where we are talking today from, where I am here, the expectation is that it would increase the cost of a home here in Sydney by $134,000," he told ABC Breakfast. "If they really thought this was a good idea, do you think they would plant it six days before an election?" Mr Clare asked. He pointed to the fact most young Australians do not have a large sum of super sitting in their accounts readily available to spend on a house.

Mr Clare flagged Labor's policy will assist couples and families to own a home rather than renting for the rest of their lives.

Its a desperate measure that only highlights the Government failure to adequately manage housing supply. Government is essentially giving your super to existing owners or builders and it may never come back to you. Bad idea.

Albomoronic has no plan.

Well clare it is far better than the limited approach labor have to housing. Labor's approach is to a limited number of people with stringant rules. Social housing does NOT work. But these comrades haven't worked that out yet.

JasonClare has as little knowledge on policy and economics as Anthonyalbanese. Increased prices? What does he think labors 40% ownership of people homes with taxpayers funds will do, Labors policy is far worse. Super and homes belong to Australians not Govt!

Jason Clare thinks it's a bad idea because he did not think of it.

ScottsSuperTax

Jason Clare sprooks for the Union Superfund bosses. They want their massive fees!

He is correct. Huge reduction in compounding of their superannuation later in life.

Even there own politicians don’t support it LNPMassiveFail

PM takes on Labor, super funds, with housing pitchScott Morrison has set up a contest over housing affordability by announcing homebuyers will be able to use up to $50,000 each from their super account to get into the market. No. Financial Review. There is no competition. Australians know using retirement funds to buy housing will send house prices soaring and further damage our economy. We are not stupid. Morrison's nonsense will be ignored. No one will compete. Default on their loan, then lose the home and their super. Now broke, they can go onto the LNP Indue card where they will be a slave to the government. 🤔 The intended consequences are to help rich developers and destroy people's retirement. The lack of vision and unintended consequence is the house price will rise even further (which of course is good for the rich developers)

'Like adding kerosene to a fire': Labor attacks Scott Morrison's super home deposit planLabor housing spokesperson Jason Clare said the policy would drive up prices and hurt young Australians, after the former prime minister and super architect Paul Keating called it a 'full-frontal assault' on the system. A financial whiz-kid I definitely am not..on the contrary, I'm a math-dickhead..but I know enough to know that if innocent dickheads syphon their super & flood the market with MILLIONS of bucks in available cash, it will be a feeding-frenzy for the sharks..Please..dump Morrison.. $50k will be totally absorbed in higher house prices, and people will lose $360,000 of super over a 25 year period based on historical returns. A disgraceful dud policy Liberal have been hell bent on destroying Super for years. Why do you think they allowed ppl access their Super in 2020? It wasn't out of the 'goodness' of their hearts🙄. Jason Clare is 100% right here. But don't take my word for it, just ask the experts who say the same thing.
