Matt Denny qualified comfortably for Saturday night’s Olympic discus final, while Brandon Starc did the business in high jump qualification. Tokyo2020 Olympics

Denny is in the frame for a medal in the discus, where, admittedly, the entire field is competing for the minor medals behind Swedish mountain Daniel Stahl who predictably qualified with the best distance of 66.12.

“I have never thrown that far that early in the morning so that proves I am in good form and it shows I enjoy using that anticipation when I compete. It’s good to have that actual competitiveness,” he said. “Looking back to 2018 that [speed in the approach] was probably the thing that made my success, the confidence, backing myself, and belief. That’s all I needed to do, I know I can jump and just backing myself, backing my ability to execute my run-up and jump - it spoke for itself.”had gone to Europe in the lead-up and competed against quality talent, and found he had some rhythm.

“It’s really disappointing, I am pretty upset about that. I am the fittest I have ever been in my life, I don’t really know what happened,” Bisset said.
