Independent Senator Rex Patrick has labelled the Department of Defence’s management of the navy’s submarine program “a mess” and says the decision to remove competitive tension has come at a severe economic cost.

All six of the navy’s Collins-class submarines will undergo a $10 billion rebuild with the introduction of first of 12 new French Attack-class submarines now scheduled for 2035. Although “absolutely necessary”, Senator Patrick says Australia’s “strange relationship” with Naval Group means defence officials need to be “thinking really long and hard about implementing that plan B”.

“The cost involved in this has been tremendous so in the future submarine program for the attack class, we’ve seen that project go from 50bn to 89bn, that’s a whopping $39 thousand million increase. “That program is running late in terms of the milestones, that program may not deliver us a regionally superior submarine … We end up with aged submarines and that always gives rise to questions about capability.

Why Does Australia have to wait to 2035 to get its first of 12 new submarines ? China waits for no one old Technology by then How Long Does it Take to Build one ? ScottMorrisonMP AlboMP SlowScott

What is wrong with The Australian liberal government ScottMorrisonMP has stuffed it up again the introduction of first of 12 new French Attack-class submarines now scheduled for 2035. Why 2035 ? What a Joke we need them now why not nuclear like the US , Russia, newscomauHQ

Why does DOD continue to make these mistakes. Why aren't builders held to account on price & build. The Williamstown shipyard, now effectively gone, built a number of ANZAC frigates on budget & on time in the 80's 90''s. Who is held responsible?. PeterDutton_MP ScottMorrisonMP

we need to let the japs build them. Or the Swedes. Just not us.

They should use the sea to hide those

they are worthless without Nuclear power and some speed, that is really the end of the debate... at least in the event of war Au would have means to keep them fueled... not enough Diesel local...

If Australia joined this war , it much more than worst believe me

So Govt has f***ed up Subs & now has to spend another $10B to keep Collins class subs going for + 10 years until next subs are ready. Who is daft enough to call LNP good economic managers any more? Maybe LNP donors and Gerry Harvey? If we go 2 war w China, we are fucked! auspol

'Inexperienced and uninformed' Mark McGowan should stay out of foreign policy | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says there's a reason the Australian constitution does not assign foreign policy to 'inexperienced' and 'money hungry' state premiers like Mark McGowan who'd 'sell out' our values in desperation for China's cash.\n\nThe remarks come after the WA premier slammed the PM for standing up to China and warned his stance could jeopardise his state's trade relations with the foreign superpower.\n\n'There is a reason our constitution assigns foreign policy to the federal government, money hungry state premiers, inexperienced in foreign affairs and uninformed by national security briefings really ought to stay out of it,' Mr Kenny said.\n\n'I don't reckon that Western Australians would be too keen on this country selling out its values and national interests in desperation for China's cash.\n\n'Mark McGowan is just being what the communists would call a useful idiot for Beijing.' Federal government has a 'problem' selling their Medicare changes | Sky News AustraliaThe Spectator Australia's Terry Barnes says the federal government has made a problem for itself by giving a very short read time into implementing their changes to Medicare - allowing Labor to run another 'Medi-scare campaign'. \n\nThe remarks come after changes were made under the Medicare Benefits Schedule which will affect orthopaedic, general and heart surgery, and come into effect on July 1.\n\n'The problem the government has made for itself is it's announced these changes and put a very short read time into starting it, which is the 1st of July,' he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\n'They haven't really thought about how they're selling it and Greg Hunt who's usually a great micromanager I think has had a bit of other things on his plate like the pandemic and hasn't really thought about how this is being explained and sold.'\n\nMr Barnes said if the health minister and the prime minister get on top of this and possibly even extend the implementation of the changes - they could inform people Medicare is not going and prevent Labor getting away with another 'Medi-scare' campaign.\n\n How can it be a scare campaign if it's true? Liberals will destroy anything that the labor party implement without a thought for ordinary Australians health and well-being APS takes hell lot of time to reply to our job applications and sure they must be expecting for few years to read.
