The powers that be have failed to achieve total victory in years of combat against the Pineapple Express veterans’ group.

Veterans’ social media group the Pineapple Express has hardly showcased the best of Australia’s military culture over the years. Publishing the phone number of war crimes whistleblowerand members also posting threats against the researcher are standout lowlights for us.

Another unsuccessful complaint from Defence read: “Is there any way to have this post removed based on defamation of an Australian Defence Force emblem?” In June 2019, after numerous complaints about specific memes, mainly around identification of ADF personnel, Defence finally had a win when the Pineapple Express was taken down.“It’s fantastic to see the Pineapple Express down across Facebook and Instagram,” an excited social media contractor wrote to Facebook.“We know that there is still plenty of work to be done and hope to have the majority of the main offenders reported.

A Defence spokesperson told CBD on Tuesday: “Defence raises concerns with social media platforms where organisations or groups post Defence-related content that the organisation believes could cause harm to our people.”“I think Defence should prioritise the wellbeing of their personnel rather than focusing on how they look to the public,” one told us this week.
