Details of the deaths on a pastoral property the state's far north in November last year were discussed in parliament this week, with the Greens describing the late disclosure as 'disappointing'.

The WA government has confirmed 17 of the critically endangered sawfish were found dead in the Fitzroy River last November.Environmental advocates want the state government to legislate water irrigation restrictions along the Kimberley river.

Minister McGurk said she was notified by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on December 1. Environs Kimberley director of strategy Martin Pritchard said the government ran the risk of a repeat in secrecy if it did not release the latest reports."The public have a right to know, when we've got this critically endangered species that is dying in significant numbers on a pastoral lease in the Kimberley," Mr Pritchard said.
