A Far North Queensland man who stalked a woman, abducted her and held her against her will for 16 hours before driving her off a steep mountain embankment has been sentenced to 12 years in jail.After pleading guilty to 29 charges, he has been declared a serious violent offenderDaniel Lewis Matthew Rooney, 26, remained expressionless as he was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Cairns today after pleading guilty to 29 charges, including deprivation of liberty, assault, strangulation and stalking.
"You admitted you snuck into her house three or four times [before abducting her]. This is seriously disturbing." Justice Henry said Rooney showed an obvious disregard for the law, failing to stop despite police deploying tyre spikes and pursuing him along the Kuranda Range in Cairns. But Justice Henry told the court Rooney made a deliberate choice to keep driving while the woman was his prisoner.
