Last-minute injunctions have stalled the deportation of a Tamil family who have spent years fighting to stay in Australia. Here's what we know about the case.

The Department of Home Affairs said the family had been comprehensively assessed a number of times and had consistently been found not to be genuine refugees. They were set to be deported on Thursday night until a last-minute court injunction stopped them from leaving the country.the Federal Court ruled Tharunicaa should not be deported from Australia until 4:00pm WednesdayThe family was moved from Darwin to a Christmas Island detention centre in the early hours of Saturday morning, lawyers said.

The Department of Home Affairs has refused to confirm the location of the family, saying it would be inappropriate as the matter is before the courts. Priya said Border Force officials initially took the family's phones and there was"no freedom" within the centre."They say all the time please, mum … here no good. Crying all the time."

We give this deportation a zero out of ten. letthemstay auspol2019

If the mother stoppped carrying on like a pork chop maybe her kids would stop crying as well. Good to see the ABC reporting the news and not taking sides 🙄🤣

Back on the boat.

They had 2 anchor babies deliberately so they wouldn't be deported?

Illegal. Key word here.

This story keeps getting followed by a Smith Family ad regarding children in poverty.

And Scott Morrison claimed he cried every night. The difference being Morrison’s tears were crocodile tears.

We owe them safe haven. They must be returned to Biloela immediately. How good would it be in the future to look back on this situation and be able to say how proud we are of our government and their decision? Cant see it happening, sadly.
