More than half of Australian general practitioners say they have battled critical flu vaccination shortages caused by distribution problems that have resulted in some clinics being flooded with flu jabs and others forced to ration supply. | EXCLUSIVE

Doctors in regional areas, including Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula, were grappling with dire shortages, while some doctors in major cities were over supplied to the point they were sending flu shots back to suppliers.

New data from the Australian Immunisation Register revealed 7.3 million flu shots had been administered so far this year, compared to 4.5 million this time last year. "There are patients who want to protect themselves and their families and we still don't have enough of the standard flu shots," he said.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has reported shortages this year, too, with some stores selling out of early vaccine supplies in record time due to anxiety about coronavirus. About a third had allocated set clinic times for flu vaccinations, while almost 20 percent delivered vaccines outdoors. This month just 138 Australians have been diagnosed with the flu, compared to more than 30,000 people infected with influenza for the month of May last year.

Coronavirus has shown us the future of work and it could see more Australians heading bushWith logging in from home the new normal for many businesspeople, the Regional Australia Institute hopes more companies will allow employees to live and work in rural and regional areas. I really hate that term 'heading bush', it's used by city centrics all the time. Until they learn about this thing called skymuster. This must have been written by someone who has never ventured farther than 20ks from the CBD . No NBN for we forgotten or irrelevant Australians . 4g at exorbitant rates ... when you can get more than 1 bar or the previously mentioned skymuster . Good luck .

Cost of COVID-19 restrictions in regional areas exacerbated by 'low foot traffic' | Sky News AustraliaVacy Hall Toowoomba Director Graham Higgins said the impact of coronavirus restrictions upon his business had been “really difficult” and “really costly”. \n\nBusinesses in Toowoomba have been denied the chance to have Easter trade, long weekend trade and Anzac day trade and still suffer under a range of coronavirus-related restrictions enforced by the Queensland government. \n\nMr Higgins said restrictions on trading days had cost him $60,000 dollars over the last two months in lost revenue.\n\n“If you add it up across the whole industry it’s probably a nine-billion-dollar cost across the state where we’ve got 250,000 people working in the tourism and hospitality industry in Queensland,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. \n\n“That is 250,000 families and lives effected by the COVID-19 shut-down”. \n\nMr Higgins said, the loss of the “drive market” from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, the cancellation of flights from Sydney and Melbourne and the complete lack of international visitors had really “hurt” business. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
