Cricket Australia has announced a new parental leave policy aimed at making it easier for players to start families and for female players to continue their careers.

Under the new scheme, announced on Friday, players who fall pregnant can transfer to a non-playing role until they give birth and be eligible for 12-months paid parental and adoption leave.Retired cricketer Emily Divin applauded the move and told SBS News it was difficult juggling being a mother and a professional athlete.

Grounds will also have breastfeeding spaces and the deal extends down into state and Big Bash cricket.Star wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy said the announcement would stop pregnancy being treated like an injury. But the new policy will not just help female players; male players will also have three weeks of fully-paid paternity leave and their children will be given the same on-tour benefits if they are the primary carers.

People still watch cricket!! I can't believe that. 😱

Wow. What a 'no brainer' decision from our highly paid cricket executives. Just imagine, women still allowed to participate in high level sport AFTER motherhood - unheard-of.

It's a fucking GAME.

If you tax churches you would have to tax every other charity. Pretty soon they would not exist and then all the taxpayers would have to replace those services which means you who object. Why not let the people who want to donate to charities pay for them and their services? Did they ask the shareholders first? I’ll answer my own question, as a shareholder, NO they bloody well didn’t! The same leave the liberals stopped from becoming law....

The radical climate solution no-one really wantsAustralia's climate policy keeps an uneasy status quo as politicians consider compromises, writes Michelle Grattan. All Fitzgibbon is trying to do is save his own political future. His job might be at risk so he will do anything, including selling out his Labor credentials. The Party doesn’t need him any more. Genocide: the radical climate solution no one really wants! You can't control the climate, it is just an abstraction as only the weather is real, but if you do a fourier analysis of the temperature records you only find natural harmonics anyway, there is no signature of human intervention. None!

'People need to listen to their instincts': Background checks spark multiple interventionsBackground checks on people suspected of having a history of domestic violence introduced in South Australia last year are already helping to save lives, a domestic violence support service says. 'Because while they may not have had an offence against them, they may be able to link that that person had those tendencies, but just hasn't been convicted yet.' WUT! Precrime? Idk... Can see both sides of this. My ex was an abusive shit, and with more publicity about DV, I guess it pays to know what u might be getting into. It is far better to be alone, than to be with someone who abuses you. My two cents... :-/ Wow Australia has so many perpetrators, this scheme needs to be funded forever and it should include interstate domestic violence perpetrators.
