Perspective | 'Craig Kelly must go!': search on for 'modern' candidate for Hughes

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time.Your humble correspondent doesn’t really do much in the way of scoops, but you may recall I did get a beauty a couple of years ago, breaking the story that Zali Steggall was at the prow of serious campaign to unseat Tony Abbott from the seat of Warringah – mostly on the grounds that his views on climate change did not remotely resemble those of his savvy electorate.by 20 points.

Any idea who that candidate is? “Not yet, but we have no doubt he or she will emerge, just like Zali Steggall did.

We get the picture. Developers. Politics. Power plays. Denials. Photo-ops. Spin. ICAC. And through it all, koala habitat after koala habitat keeps getting knocked over. Stop it, Premier, as only you can. The situation for koalas has never been more dire, and feel good photo-ops are no more than a cherry atop a turd sandwich.

“We haven't had a zero case day for a long time, which is why it is emotional, because people have been through a lot. People have done amazing things, [shown] extraordinary acts of kindness and commitment and courage. None of this has been easy but Victorians have shown what they are made of, looking out for each other, protecting and caring for each other but also knowing that this virus does not discriminate.”“Tough times don’t last, tough people do. We survived.

He never should have been installed by party HQ as the local member in the first place.

deniseshrivell If ScottyFromMarketing insists on Craig being the Liberal candidate will these dissenters put up an independent candidate?

Craig Kelly isn’t perfect, though he’s a hard working representative of our electorate. He is a straight shooter, that says it as it is, and has overwhelming support of the electorate, and that’s all that matters. No, he ain’t going anywhere.

Modern means ‘believes the climate BS’.

Morrison doesn't believe in accountability or democracy. He'd just over rule pre-selection again. We MUST get rid of them both.

polliebill Craig Kelly, 🤢🤦‍♂️, yeah nah & relic

Why must he go? Is he trying to break the cycle?

I'd thought this a serious column judged solely by the headline - then I saw that Pirate Pete was its author. Craig Kelly, you're perfectly safe if Pete's agin' you

Hughes has exactly the candidate that the Australian media insisted they have. That’s despite the decision of the local Liberal selection panel. I find it very hard to stomach complaining about the entirely predictable result.

Craig’s job is to be the Pied Piper of Boganville, to lead them away from One Nation. If it means making a complete fool of himself, so be it.

The Liberal members wanted to remove this stooge at preselection. ScottMorrisonMP overruled that.

He would have been gone already if preselection was allowed to continue without interference
