Exclusive: A NSW tribunal has given the green light for a potential trial of a COVID-19 treatment on critically ill patients who are unable to consent | MWhitbourn rachelclun

A NSW tribunal has given the green light for a potential trial of a COVID-19 treatment on critically ill patients who are unable to consent, concluding the trial was in their best interests and involved a low risk.

"We were satisfied that, on balance, it is in the best interests of patients who suffer from COVID-19 and meet the clinical trial protocol criteria ... to take part in the trial," the tribunal said.Patients who satisfied the inclusion criteria would be critically unwell and facing "a significant risk of death".

Approving the trial does not mean consent has been given for any particular patient to participate, and this requires a separate consent. The purpose of the trial was to find out whether the drug improved the treatment of critically-ill patients who developed ARDS – a life-threatening condition – as a result of COVID-19.

Coronavirus update: 'Major breakthrough' as trial shows cheap steroid can reduce COVID-19 death ratesOxford University scientists are hailing the use of cheap and widely used steroid Dexamethasone as a 'major breakthrough' in the treatment of coronavirus after it is found to reduce death rates in COVID-19 patients. Dexamethasone is a potent anti-inflammatory drug. It should be emphasised that it doesn’t kill viruses so people don’t start using it indiscriminately like they did with hydoxychloroquine.

COVID-19 trial indicates cheap steroid can save livesResearchers say a cheap and widely used steroid called dexamethasone is the first drug to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. But doctors who 'have been burned before' want to see the data for themselves. Hmm, interesting and somewhat makes sense as inflammation would be magnanimous in reaction to both the virus as well as a response against clots. I don’t know why the researchers don’t show transparency even if it’s experimental and doesn’t meet ethics guidelines. Hopefully this doesn’t trigger the worried well to try to stockpile. It’s a vital drug for chemo and autoimmune patients. The last thing they need is a shortage If it's cheap how will they profit from it?

Animal activists fail in bid to stop sheep leaving aboard COVID-19 shipAfter 25 days docked at Fremantle Port, the coronavirus-stricken Al Kuwait is headed for the Middle East with 35,000 sheep on board, despite last-minute challenges from animal rights activists. Because in most cases the economy and of course money comes first. We’re just sending them so the Muslim arseholes can slaughter them to appease their mythical skygod. They went about this all the wrong, they should have started a group called sheep lives matter.
