Researchers say a cheap and widely used steroid called dexamethasone has become the first drug to save the lives of COVID-19 patients in a "major breakthrough" in the coronavirus pandemic.Death rates were reduced by about a third in patients who took the drug, according to the study's authors
The findings were announced via media release, but the researchers said they would work to publish the full details of the trial as soon as possible.
"This is a [trial] result that shows that if patients who have COVID-19 and are on ventilators or are on oxygen are given dexamethasone, it will save lives, and it will do so at a remarkably low cost," said Martin Landray, an Oxford University professor co-leading the trial, known as the RECOVERY trial.One death would be prevented in every 25 COVID-19 patients on oxygen that received the drug, he calculated.

If it's cheap how will they profit from it?
Hopefully this doesn’t trigger the worried well to try to stockpile. It’s a vital drug for chemo and autoimmune patients. The last thing they need is a shortage
Hmm, interesting and somewhat makes sense as inflammation would be magnanimous in reaction to both the virus as well as a response against clots. I don’t know why the researchers don’t show transparency even if it’s experimental and doesn’t meet ethics guidelines.
