The man's wife was granted permission to have his feeding tubes withdrawn, despite a lengthy court battle with his parents who are devout Catholics and insist he be kept alive. 9News

hour backflip on ending Mr Lambert’s life came after the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities had called on France to delay euthanizing him while they investigated further.

Rachel Lambert, wife of Vincent Lambert who was injured in a 2008 motorbike accident, was told by her husband's medical team in 2013 that all avenues had been exhausted and it might be better to switch off life support. Because his parents were not consulted about the decision, they took legal action to try and prevent it from happening.

The case has gathered a large following in Europe, with President Emmanuel Macron and even the Pope weighing in on it after Mr Lambert’s parents wrote an open letter to the president, pleading for his help. However, President Marcon rejected the call to intervene saying the decision was made after constant dialogue between doctors and his wife, who is his legal representative.

Someone needs to remove the feeding tube from the Catholic Church

What happens too ppl if they are 102 years old what do you do about it

This is cruel. This isn't quality of life. He's basically a vegetable and the parents are causing everyone more grief. Even the doctors have said to turn the life support off. This is not him living.

bloody religion sticking its head in again and causing trouble - good to see commonsense prevailed

So the decision to remove life support has been overturned, meaning his life support will continue. If doctors agree he will never recover, life support should be removed.

Parents should never be able to force their beliefs on their children. If the man made it clear he wanted to die if he was in this situation, his wishes should be respected.
