Australia could see a 'second wave' of COVID-19 infections as the nation begins to lift its strict social distancing measures, experts warn. Latest details:

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly cautioned that we could see a second wave of infections as various states and territories begin to ease up their distancing policies without a vaccine in place.

"We're continuing to do well in Australia … in one sense we're victims of our success to an extent, because we've had so few people that have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and we are nowhere near that concept of herd immunity," Professor Kelly told reporters in Canberra. "That would be one way of guarding against a second wave.

“ we're definitely not looking to do that in Australia, as some of the countries have either planned to do or have been forced to achieve very large caseloads." He said we need a new strategy to help us transition out of social restrictions while preparing for a second wave, standing firm against the herd immunity approach."A second wave is always possible and that's why those three precedents have been set by the Prime Minister before we lift those social distancing and socialisation rules about case finding, keeping the cases low if possible.

"If cases occur, finding them quickly, finding their contacts, quarantining them and decreasing the size of any outbreaks that we might have by having a very detailed and quick response.

GladysB Silly. NSW cases still rising and more people are out and about in Sydney CBD. 2nd wave likely.

GladysB We get this as opposed to the scientific based, empathetic and intelligent statement from Dan Andrews. We still don’t know so much about this virus - nothing is final. Always was and always will be koalakiller

GladysB Just make it very clear if people want to take the p*ss and cases spike again, the restrictions will be reimposed and tougher than before.

Wrong Coronavirus has all but been defeated in Australia lets get back to normal

Of course, that's the plan. This boogeyman virus will be used as a perpetual fear-device, over and over and over. It ONLY ends, when you consent to taking the Gatesian 'Mark of the Beast', i.e mandatory vaccination. Don't worry, I hear they're harmless.

Experts eh? Those experts that said we’d have a million infections ‘best case’ and we had 7,000?

It only takes one person anywhere in the country to kick this off again. So yeah, expect more quarantines

Here we go.... lock downs go on and on and on ...

Don't let him say any different. swrighteconomy The economy wasn’t already in trouble. It’s all because of Covid19. 🤔 Worth putting those with chronic conditions & mental health issues at risk because of a virus with a similar mortality rate to influenza? Every 1% ^ in unemployment = 4% ^ in suicides.
