Breaking: Conservative MPs reach an 'agreement' over abortion bill

Liberal MP Tanya Davies says there has been an "agreement" reached over the issue of late term abortions but it was still too early to guarantee she would not defect to the crossbench.

Mrs Davies, the government's most vocal opponent of the abortion bill, said an amendment to codify existing practice around abortions after 22-weeks was critical to her remaining in the Liberal Party.Credit:"I understand that there has been an agreement on the wording of the amendment dealing with late term abortions but this is still not final," Mrs Davies said.

But instead Finance Minister Damien Tudehope will move a revised version, which has been negotiated with one of the bill's co-sponsors, Nationals MLC Trevor Khan. Mrs Davies said her position had not changed and she would not be deciding her political future until after the bill passes the lower house, which will probably happen on Thursday.

But the Mulgoa MP has ruled out moving any more amendments in the lower house and further delaying the bill, which is the third longest debated bill in the upper house.

There is something inherently sick about legislation with an amendment that requires abortionists to preserve the life of a pre-born child delivered alive because they were unsuccessful in killing the child in utero.

suspect its more about a return to cabinet or similar than abortion.

Tell the Conservatives to bugger off to Alabama.
