Hobart musician Rachel Meyers pilots an innovative 'deep listening' project at Arthur River.

"I've done a lot of listening — outdoors — and a lot less playing instruments than I imagined I would, because it's just so ferocious," Ms Meyers said.

"It's been quite humbling actually, spending so much time in the howling wind, with six lines of breakers stacked up off the edge of the world. "The waves have been from three to seven metres for two weeks! It's been a really intense process, being here." The Hobart-based musician's other tools include a surround sound microphone and an old violin that looks as weathered as the driftwood logs deposited randomly everywhere you look here.

"This old violin out in this salt air — it feels like I don't even need to play it. I could just hold these f-holes up to the wind and that would play something," Ms Meyers said.
