The Communist Party of China "has always used the death penalty in extreme ways, particularly related to drug trafficking" according to Liberal MP Tim Wilson. Victorian man Karm Gillespie was arrested in 2013 for drug trafficking charges, and was last week convicted and will now face the death penalty in the communist state.
Mr Wilson told Sky News host Peter Gleeson "we don't want to see Australians facing death penalities anywhere in the world". He said the Australian government "is providing diplomatic and consular support to assist him". "Australia opposes the death penalty, I oppose the death penalty and let's be clear there is never a good time to be facing the death penalty".
