Angus Taylor says the opposition will propose to re-establish restrictions on government spending; the Coalition is set to unveil income tax reforms before the next election. Follow updates here.

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor has reiterated Liberal senator Jane Hume by saying that the Coalition will unveil a tax package before the next election that aims to address bracket creep. Taylor claimed that further tax reform was necessary because personal income taxes had increased by 23 per cent over recent years as a result of inflation. “The best way to get them back to where they need to be is put downward pressure on taxes. That’s the starting point,” he said on ABC’s Insiders.

We said we’ll deliver a tax package before the next election which is in keeping with the stage three tax cuts. “Critical to that is making sure that we don’t see the insidious creep of income taxes which we have seen 23 per cent under Labor.” Taylor added that the Coalition wanted to see more private sector investment. “This is a crucial differentiation between us and Labor. They think the way to get the economy going over the medium term is to get the government to invest.
