While George Christensen says he spent time visiting his fiancée and helping to raise funds for charity, David_Speers says there’s ‘no getting around the problem’ of the marginal seat MP spending this much time outside his electorate. Speers

Sky News political editor David Speers says many in George Christensen’s electorate ‘might wish he focussed more on his own backyard’, amid revelations the Nationals MP spend 294 days over a four-year period in the Philippines. Mr Christensen spent more time in the Philippines than he did in parliament for two of those years, the Herald Sun reports.

While the MP says he spent time visiting his fiancée and helping to raise funds for charity, Mr Speers says there’s ‘no getting around the problem’ of the marginal seat MP spending this much time outside his electorate. The Sky News Political Editor also notes Mr Christensen is ‘taking an extraordinary amount of time off’ for someone on a taxpayer-funded salary of about $200,000 a year.

Morrison trailblazing harsh penalties for social media platforms | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister Scott Morrison is championing harsh penalties for social media companies in a bid to stop them from becoming 'weaponised with terror content', calling on fellow world leaders to take similar action.\n\nUnder the proposed laws it would be an offence if social media sites didn't remove terrorism footage from their platforms as soon as they became aware of it.\n\nPenalties would also increase with the length of time the content remained on the site.\n\nThe government will deliver the legislature plan in a summit today with the Australian executives of social media companies, including Facebook, Google and Twitter.\n\n\n\n Good luck with that, (it will never happen). What a joke they won’t lock up car jackers, home invaders, people committing violent assaults and smash and grabs, but point out certain people’s failings and they want to throw the book at you.
