Australia 'is the one to blame' for the current difficulties in Canberra and Beijing's relationship, China's foreign ministry spokesman has claimed, following the 'extremely irresponsible' announcement of AUKUS.

“The nuclear submarine cooperation between the US, the UK and Australia has seriously undermined regional peace and stability, intensified the arms race and undermined international non-proliferation efforts,” Mr Zhao said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announces AUKUS with US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday. Picture: Newswire/Gary Ramage “I'll be having further calls today as we talk through these issues and that engagement with China, and there is an open invitation for President Xi and I to discuss these and many other matters,” he said.

“I would like to reiterate that mutual respect and good mutual trust are the prerequisite for dialogue and cooperation between countries,” the Chinese government spokesman said.

China You mean this China?

Australia looking after its people and interests. 👏👏👏👏👏👏 AUKUS

I think it’s clear right now that neither country wants to be friends, business aside there is just absolutely nothing in common between the two countries so let’s just divorce, trade elsewhere, learn to live within our means and become self sufficient 😎

The US takeover of Australia is almost complete. A walk in the park compared to Afghanistan.

Hallmark of the Morrison government Full marks in quest for perfect failure. Diplomatic fallout with China France. What a wreckage on top of sexism debacle, vaccine , covid clumsiness ,1 trillion debt , unashamely sexism, consistently failed wars since Vietnam.

The truth is Australia started all the mess, not China. China is just a upset customer.

This pact ties Australia to any US military engagement against ChinaIt amounts to dramatic loss of sovereignty, writes the former Australian prime minister. A really dumb move. But what would you expect? Morrison has made it his goal to put us at loggerheads with China since he became PM. Best Prime Minister in my lifetime. But can’t agree with his anti-US, pro-China stance, even though some of the points are valid Australia is tied to any US engagement and Paul Keating knows this.
