Beijing slams senior officials from the United States and other countries for congratulating Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen after her landslide election victory.

Li Jiannan, a renowned political commentator in Taiwan, said on Global Perspective that the confusion could be caused by"fake news" about the election.

He said news coverage on the mainland in the lead up to the election depicted Mr Han as more popular than Ms Tsai, so people were blind-sided by Ms Tsai's win. After 36 years of ties, Solomon Islands ended relations with Taiwan. What did it cost Beijing to win over the Pacific nation's old friend, and what might it mean for stability in the region?

However, state news agency Xinhua claimed in an editorial that Ms Tsai and her Democratic Progressive Party had used"dirty tactics" such as"cheating, repression and intimidation to get votes, fully exposing their selfish, greedy and evil nature". State-owned Global Times tabloid newspaper also warned in an editorial against the US,"which has been regarding China as a strategic competitor", of getting up to"more little tricks" on the Taiwan issue in the coming years. However, the US itself is formally a diplomatic ally of Beijing rather than Taipei, which only has 15 remaining allies around the world.

Chinese people are not allowed to use Twitter which is actually a good thing to keep here clear lol. Congrats President Tsai.

Only a nasty, miserable, fascist, nationalistic, xenophobic, totalitarian regime like the Chinese Communist Party could respond to a democratic choice made by a free republic in this way. In contrast, China has an un-elected monarch-like violence-threatening dictatorship instead.

Congratulations!

Hahahaha, sorry China, you lost, get over it.

Not exactly a secret that China isn't a fan of democracy

Congratulations Tsai!! Keep standing up to China, keep Taiwan democratic

A win is a win. The people have spoken very clearly.

So happy for Taiwan. Well done Tsai. Voting is fun.

The rise and fall of China

Well done Tsai great win for the Taiwanese people. Poor China

Up yours, China.

Yes. They don't like the concept of the ppl deciding.
