Prosecutors in Perth have discontinued charges against a gymnastics coach who was accused of sexually abusing two children he was coaching at the Northern Districts Gymnastics Club [NDGC].He lost his job as a gymnastics coach after charges were laidGabriel Sim, 36, was alleged to have indecently dealt with the children between February 2019 and January 2021.
He was facing five counts of indecently dealing with a child aged over 13 years and under 16 years of age, and one count of indecently dealing with a child under 13 years of age. However, all charges were discontinued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the West Australian District court earlier this week.after Sport Integrity Australia referred allegations against him to the WA Police.
At the time, NDGC did not inform its members, which resulted in one mother pulling her daughter out of the club. Also at the time, manager Brenton Treacher said the club had not wanted to prematurely communicate details of the case with its broader parent group, because it might have created risks for those involved and potentially jeopardised the police investigation. In a statement to its members dated this week, Mr Treacher said it had been told last week that the indecent dealing charges against its former coach had been withdrawn.
he better get one hell of a compensation payout and those who accused him need to be charged along the same lines
Curious reporting given the charges were dropped.
