Calls are growing for the Queensland government to do more to address the housing crisis as new figures reveal the state built 50 per cent fewer social homes this financial year than the previous year.

Key points:The state government has built only 326 new social homes this financial year

Despite having a good rental history, she's been applying for dozens of properties and can't find a new place within budget on her single-parent Centrelink income. "I've applied for places that are like $240 for a little two-bedroom unit but I still get knocked back."People are offering six months in advance and for people who are desperate to get into a home so they're not homeless, we can't actually do that."She's now planning to move into her dad's two-bedroom apartment where she'll sleep on a mattress on the floor with her young kids while the property hunt continues.

"In addition to that, the sales market has been performing in such a strong way, which is great news for vendors but very difficult for purchasers, so it's very challenging conditions at the moment. That's just over half of what was built in the previous financial year, with 631 constructions completed in 2020/21.

Perhaps we shut down short term letting and go hard at multinational “tech” companies who have exploited laws, lobbied to change zoning lawns and paid ZERO TAX here so we have the income to build affordable homes for the problems they help create.

Are the children by the same father?

The premiers “attempt” at empathy…

fifimurray2 Cross River Rail & the Olympics must take priority. The Qld Govt has decreed it to be so.

This woman should be grateful she has family and can move in with her father. There are thousands who are nowhere near as fortunate. She should count her blessings instead of whinging.

Welcome to Albanese's Australia.

I had to leave Queensland in 2017 because I was already being pushed out of the rental market, even though I had been renting for almost 20 years all I could get was a tiny little unit surrounded by the worst types in town, certainly not a safe place for my teenage daughter

Toowoomba? AnnastaciaMP StevenJMiles

The article doesn't say WHY she is being rejected. Anyway she's not destitute she has somewhere to live. ABC find someone in real need to interview next time. She can move away from Brisbane.

Maybe the Biloela illegals will pay her rent for her or get ray white realestate to stump up a free house and rent😡😡😡

LOL 'on her single-parent Centrelink income' Maybe Einstein should have thought about housing before having kids? So what's the full story, did she have an affair with the plumber before leaving hubby and whining about life?

Bad life planning Should never have had two kids without being secure.

The only way we can make housing 🏠 affordable to the great majority is to treat it as shelter for the people and not investment to make more money 💵 💰

what about her family? the public is expecting that gov would fund their problems from NDIS to dental n housing The ultimate nanny state

Well you lefties keep wanting more refugees who get housing straight away ahead of Aussies .

maybe windfall tax on energy companies could be used to house those in need

While it is dreadful this woman and her children are facing homelessness...I am wondering where is the father of these children and why are there no laws for the compulsory maintenance collected on the children's behalf to ease the financial burden of mothers.

Why are State Governments not utilizing the newly built quarantine centers as emergency housing? We can't just pay for stupid things then never use them.

Apply to refugee advocates they have millions to play around with get a free house and celebrity status . OH you are the wrong colour and nationality sorry

75% of the homeless are men. We shall look forward to a story about one of them. 🙄

Let her move in with the Biloela family she paid their accommodation and legal bill for 3 years.

Why

Did she lose her job to mandates? At what point do you become criminally liable for claiming these drugs are safe? How well does Pfizer understand how much spike protein is produced, in how many cells, for how long? NOT AT ALL.

Wonder who labor will support.. the homeless or mass immigration?

Did nothing for housing but spent hundreds of millions on wellcamp and continue to spend on hotel rooms for quarantine. Well done QLD government. Absolute flops
