Canavan concerned RBA low interest rates will let ‘inflation genie’ out of the bottle | Sky News AustraliaNationals Senator Matt Canavan has urged the Coalition to turn its attention to inflation before it spirals out of control, accusing the RBA of adopting an overly “sanguine” fiscal policy.\n\nHis comments come as the Morrison government prepares to hand down a big-spending federal budget later today which is expected to put the Commonwealth in deficit for decades.\n\n“I’m a little concerned at the RBA’s seeming sanguine attitude to leaving interest rates very, very low for three years. I’d like to think they’d be more proactive than that,” Mr Canavan told Sky News.\n\n“I think we do have to be a little concerned at the moment at how hot the economy is running … No one’s talking about it, but I’m worried about inflation.\n\n“We don’t want the inflation genie to come out of the bottle because he doesn’t grant you wishes. Once he’s out it’s too late.”\n\nMr Canavan also questioned the RBA’s decision to keep interest rates at a record low for three years and suggested the decision was incautious given the volatile fiscal environment.\n\n“I’m a little concerned at the RBA’s seeming sanguine attitude to leaving interest rates very, very low for three years.
