The defect means that the engine compartment of impacted vehicles could have an increased risk of catching fire, even when the vehicle is turned off.A Kia Australia spokesperson said in a statement that they have not received any official notification on the matter, but were aware of the proposed class action.A Hyundai Motor Company Australia spokesperson said they prioritise the safety of their customers, and were disappointed about the class action.
"We take the safety and reliability of our vehicles seriously. We have always and will continue to stand by our products by providing our customers with the support they need," the spokesperson said. "We are disappointed about the class action but will consider the allegations carefully before commenting further."
The proposed Kia class action involves almost 58,000 Sportage and Stinger model vehicles manufactured between 2016 and 2019. The Hyundai class action involves almost 94,000 Tucson model cars with model years between 2014 and 2020, 124 Genesis G80 and G70 2018 models, 1200 Genesis models from 2014-2017, 21,943 Sante Fe models from 2015-2018 and ix35 models from 2014-2015, and a further 19,541 ix35 models from 2014-2015.
If it results in less than the cost of a recall, we opt to keep it quite… oh I work for a “major” company.
Finally, a move in the right direction. Hyundai & Kia need to understand that they can’t compromise safety for profit. They’ve being doing it for far too long.
What about the existing gearbox issues? My car has been in service 6mths now & theyre now telling me its a wreck. Problem is, its a low km just out of years & theres no Lemon Laws in Australia?! $22k down the drain.
