Fitness centres struggling to survive the coronavirus pandemic have been left in the lurch, as finance companies cancel payments without consultation | carawaters

have been dealt another blow by finance companies cancelling direct debits without consultation.

Despite these emails, Twisters' billing company IntegraPay cancelled all of the gym's direct debits without warning last week, leaving the business without any income.Finance companies have defended the freezing of funds, saying they are worried about breaching Australian Consumer Law, which stipulates that people must not accept payment for services if there are reasonable grounds for believing they will not be able to supply those services.

However, small businesses have warned the freeze is the last thing they need as they try to deal with closures from coronavirus. Holly Ord, owner of Hot For Yoga in Perth said Ezidebit incorrectly suspended payments at a time they needed them most, without any consultation.
