Some tourism operators enjoy strong occupancy rates in the traditionally busy holiday period, while others find new border controls between Victoria and New South Wales an additional challenge after a difficult year.

"It puts a dampener on what's supposed to be a nice festive season. Especially after the year we've been through.

Before Christmas Day, Murray Regional Tourism chief executive Mark Francis said many accommodation providers had occupancy rates of about 90 per cent going into this week. Mr Francis said operators were fortunate a high proportion of visitors to the Murray region came from other parts of regional Victoria and South Australia.

Motorists reported delays of between one and three hours to pass through the checkpoint, where South Australian biosecurity officers inspect vehicles for fruit and vegetables, and SA Police check permit numbers for those entering the state. Ms Golding estimated about 40 per cent of the traffic queued up on Sunday afternoon were caravans and campervans, and advised anyone making the journey to leave early and allow extra time to travel.

We are a country of whingers, or so it seems from all the abc reporting, yet most people I know support border control, necessary lockdowns, etc.

Absolutely Disgraceful, opening international borders but closing state borders. I seriously hope compensation is available to all who got stuffed around by these incompetent so called leaders

Was worse at the Queensland border, they changed the rules and told no one that had already done a permit... was chaos as people tried to do permits for kids. Also was only staffed by 3 people... we had a 45 Min wait

As a wise man once said, you aren't stuck in traffic, you are the traffic

All because of 5 cases a day. Btw I crossed the Victorian border on Barry way a couple of days ago and there was no one there to check my border pass. Hopeless.

What a way to cripple the economy and send ppl bankrupt. Just imagine what would we do without state governments🤔

ADD ME PLZ...NEW HERE

That’s all because of the NSW government incompetence

'Challenging and volatile': Aladdin's cave of goods stranded in Suez Canal blockageAn Aladdin's cave of goods ranging from IKEA furnishings to tens of thousands of livestock is stuck in a maritime traffic jam caused by the Suez Canal blockage. Funny how ABC and other Left media don't want to call it by its proper name Evergreen . I guess the idea of something called EVERGREEN blocking world trade and oil supplies isn't a great metaphor for the green movement.

'I wouldn't like to be there after 6': Clock ticks down to border closureThe Victorian government announced a 'hard' border closure about 3.30pm on Thursday, prompting thousands of Victorian to rush home from NSW and leaving traffic jams kilometres long at border crossings. They had said avoid travel long before Christmas as this was likely to happen. The Morning presser also urged people to head back home. Poor reporting again. What do you want? A few hours of chaos at a border or a rampant rate of re-infections from returning holidaymakers as NSW outbreak grows. All because of Gladys the shredder What an incompetent politician she is
