Taxpayers in the United Kingdom are on the hook to pay about $1 million in legal costs related to Prince Harry’s mammoth legal fight with the British home office.

British taxpayers to fork out $1 million in legal fees for Prince Harry's court battle with Home Office four years after Megxit

The Duke argued that he should still receive a degree of taxpayer-funded protection when he visits the United Kingdom despite living in California and carrying out no duties on behalf of the King or the British government. Ironically, the decision to cut back on Harry’s security to save money will now cost taxpayers about £500,000 in legal fees after the Duke of Sussex sued the home office.

Harry even claimed in a witness statement which was read in court that he and his wife Meghan Markle “felt forced” to flee the United Kingdom and step down as senior royals.
