Melbourne is the only Australian city to make the 10 most liveable cities – but it could easily have missed out. | seanparnell

Melbourne is the only Australian city to make the top 10 in the latest Global Liveability Index – but it could easily have missed out.

While Sydney failed to make the top 10 in 2021, Adelaide leapt to third spot. The New Zealand cities of Auckland and Wellington also did well because they had been spared the worst of COVID-19. Brisbane’s time in the sun was brief, with the 2032 Olympic host city slipping to 27th place, passing Sydney on the way. Adelaide, meanwhile, went from third to 30th place. The New Zealand cities fell the furthest, with Auckland now ranked 34th and Wellington 50th – below Perth, which is 32nd.

“By keeping international borders closed in early 2021, the country had witnessed much lower caseloads and fatality rates. But its healthcare infrastructure has come under pressure more recently. Owing to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the first quarter of 2022, these cities have seen their healthcare system suffer as compared to a year ago.”

seanparnell Why is journalism like this? No matter what...always find the negative slant. Does it make the writer feel above it, or the publishers.

seanparnell Is housing affordability factored into this? If it was Australia wouldn’t have a city in the top 100

seanparnell This is bullshit. Melbourne is not liveable businesses are closing and the city is dieing plus you can’t even drive in.

seanparnell I love how you still found a way to put a negative spin in the headline. Good work!!

seanparnell Why do we get a Brisbane slanted article? Is it so against the Gay_Alcorn to celebrate Melbourne

seanparnell Most liveable that has to be a joke…place is run by fucktards in Capp and Andrews, you can’t move because they have gridlocked the roads and you can’t say anything because freedom of speech has been abandoned…this place is fucked

seanparnell If you’re not in Melbourne, you’re slumming it.

Linda's son bought 11 bottles of vodka in his final 10 days. She's pushing for changes to liquor licensing lawsIn Victoria, liquor licensing laws are supposed to stop bars and bottle shops from serving anyone who is intoxicated, but Linda Smart says her son was never refused service. My brother bought more than 10 times that but he was holding a party. Personal responsibility is more important, to expect a bottleshop worker on a minimum wage to identify a problem drinker is unreasonable. Shame that govt and the alcohol industry won't allow competition from less harmful substances More laws is always the answer is it?
