NRL: The Panthers have gotten back into the winners circle after back to back defeats with a narrow win against Manly.

Parramatta Eels chief Jim Sarantinos believes Michael Cheika “brings a point of difference” as he confirmed the former Wallabies coach’s interest in succeeding Brad Arthur.

Cheika is one of the contenders in the mix for the Eels vacancy along with Parramatta’s interim coach Trent Barrett, Cronulla Sharks assistant Josh Hannay and Melbourne Storm assistant Jason Ryles.Blues coach Michael Maguire was also heavily linked with the post but has since pulled out of the race, citing his focus is solely on New South Wales.

However, appointing Cheika would remain a major roll of the dice for a team who has not won a premiership in 38 years.“He’s got a lot of experience and he’s obviously put forward his interest.Panthers set to be Sin City bound as four frontrunners for NRL’s 2025 Vegas venture revealed“He’d be a very interesting guy to have in the process and brings a point of difference that we’ll explore.”

Should Cheika be appointed, he would reunite with superstar halfback Mitchell Moses, who also represents Lebanon on the international stage. If the Eels decide Cheika is their man, they may have to move quickly as the Waratahs, who the 57-year-old previously coached, are also on the lookout for a new boss.

The Waratahs axed Darren Coleman in May after three years in the role as his final season saw the team finish last in Super Rugby, winning just twice from 14 games.
