A Brighton house sold in front of nearly 200 people at a competitive auction for a multimillion-dollar sum — to a buyer that plans to knock it down

After some “really spirited bidding”, the 733sq m property sold for $4.875m — a shocking $1.225m above expectations.

Nick Johnstone Real Estate Brighton boss Nick Johnstone led the auction sale and said the successful buyer planned to knock down the existing house and build a new one.“Drake St is probably one of the most sought-after streets in Brighton, it’s a nice wide street and close to Gardenvale station and great schools.”

Among them was a stylish, three-bedroom townhouse in Armadale that notched an $80,000 premium under the hammer after a highly competitive auction.pad, which was called on the market at $2.3m before selling for $2.38m. “This was a real standout property in an excellent location nearby to the High St shopping strip and Lauriston Girls’ School,” a Kay & Burton spokesperson said.
