There have been calls for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to strip former English cricket captain Geoffrey Boycott of his new knighthood over his domestic abuse conviction. In 1998 Boycott was convicted, fined and given a three-month suspended sentence for beating his then-girlfriendBoycott, 78, was awarded a knighthood in former prime minister Theresa May's resignation honours list that was released on Tuesday , alongside fellow former cricket captain Andrew Strauss.

"Celebrating a man who was convicted for assaulting his partner sends a dangerous message that domestic abuse is not taken seriously as a crime." Boycott denied the allegations, and on Tuesday morning told BBC radio it was"clear in my mind that it's not true" when asked if the delay in knighting him was due to the conviction."Most people in England don't believe it, I didn't do it, move on," he said.

"Honouring a perpetrator of domestic violence just because he is the former prime minister's favourite sportsman shows how out of touch and nepotistic the honours list is," she said.Melanie Brown tweet: Georffrey boycot is a disgrace to Yorkshire,I can nit believe he has been knighted, perpetrators of domestic abuse shouldn't be held up as heroes EVER

He wouldn't be the first person to be convicted of a crime he didn't commit, after all its one of the reasons why they did away with capital punishment, just in case an innocent person was hanged. Thirty years in jail is not so bad is it.

Now that would be 1 hell of a pot, kettle situation.

He may have a point, I don't know, but it seems hypocritical given the gross excesses of historic members of the institution of knighthood.

Are they scared that the Conservatives and the Brexit Party will strengthen theirs? They know what will happen if an election happens. Traitors to their own nation. Just my 2c
