Breaking: Byron Bay’s Bluesfest has been cancelled for the second year in a row, amid fears of community coronavirus transmission in the region after a local man tested positive on Tuesday night. coronavirus Brisbanelockdown

The local man was seated near the infectious Queensland bachelorette party who prompted health alerts in Byron Shire over the weekend.

“There are probably some more cases on the horizon, hopefully not, but we’ve got to be open to that and respond to whatever comes up.”The new case also prompted restrictions for Byron, Ballina, Tweed and Lismore shires from 5pm on Wednesday, with household gatherings limited to 30 people, venue caps returning to the four-square-metre rule, stand-up drinking banned and masks mandated in retail stores, public indoor settings and on public transport.

Having attended the past eight Bluesfests, Ms Woodward said she wanted to stay and support the industry after last year’s event was cancelled. “We had outbreaks in Sydney at Christmas and yet the cricket still proceeded under COVID-safe guidelines [and] there was no spreader event linked to sport,” she said.Melia Borg, who runs Gypsy Mama Wild Child clothing store in Byron Bay, took her family for a COVID-19 test on Wednesday and said it was “very well organised”.

“Running a business from home, it’s all business as usual at the present but I feel for the businesses in town, they will be relying on the Easter trade, that might be in jeopardy now.”

'public health order cancelling the festival, scheduled to take part on the Easter long weekend.' NSW Health had NO CHOICE . Now Mr Hazzard is the time to REINSTATE THE MASK MANDATE statewide or ALL of NSW and to keep it in place until the vax rollout is 100% complete.
