A man is protesting beaches being re-opened in the US during the coronavirus pandemic by dressing up as the Grim Reaper. 9News

A man is protesting beaches being re-opened in Florida during the coronavirus pandemic by dressing up as the 'Grim Reaper'. The eye-catching costume got even more attention after a recent interview with a local TV station.

Florida lawyer Daniel Uhlfelder wore a long black robe, black mask and hood, holding a scythe, as he stalked beaches near his area in Walton County, protesting their re-opening ahead of the initial May 4 schedule, as the USA continues to struggle to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control. Mr Uhlfelder was interviewed on ABC13 by reporter Faith Graham about his protest, making for a bizarre scene.

"I'm here today to try to make a point that I think it's premature to open our beaches," he said after being handed the microphone by the reporter."I'm a huge proponent of public beaches and I've been fighting for that for years. "But I think the danger of bringing all the people here to our area and spreading the virus, I think it's going to prolong the recovery.
