Larry Connor, a real estate billionaire from Ohio, has partnered up with Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey to voyage to the Titanic wreckage site in a bid to show the world the industry can be safe. According to the WSJ, Mr Connor was on the phone with Mr Lahey just days after the disaster, encouraging him to build a sub to reassure the world that exploring the ocean could be done safely.
While the Titan had been built from a mix of carbon fibre and aluminium, earning the disapproval of many in the industry, the Triton will primary be made of acrylic.
