Casual workers who have worked for the same employer for more than a year will be able to ask their boss for permanent full- or part-time work under a Labor government.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will announce on Wednesday his party’s plans to introduce the casual conversion legislation, which could benefit more

than a million workers. Labor will also provide workers with a right to challenge an employer who unreasonably refuses a request for a permanent position.

Skene v Workpac

That right has always been there

Don’t they already have that

Michaeldmac2006 That is great.

More Bullshit from Bill

“MORE! Never before has a boy asked for MORE (job security)!!!

Wouldn’t they already be able ask? Do they want to make it mandatory that if they ask the employer has to say yes?

Lol they can do that now and they will still get the same no answer.

Sensible move. Good work Bill.

Bill shorten the Bullshiter again.

LoL they can do that now, more BS.

They should only be able ask if they have averaged 38hrs a week for 12 months to go permanent or 20-25 hours for part time. Someone who does 15 hours a week shouldn't automatically be able to go permanent because they've worked for a company for a year.

Employers wary as Bill Shorten promises 2.6m casual workers the right to convertOpposition Leader Bill Shorten has promised to give Australia's 2.6 million casual workers an easier pathway to full time employment if he is elected prime minister, as he puts wages and jobs at the centre of week two of Labor's election campaign. too many workers r being taken in as casuals then stay as casuals for d convenience of d bosses How will their overlords make their huge bonuses though? This is a dangerous idea. Yes - I have learned analysing Federal Politics over the past few decades, to be very wary of pre election promises being upheld and honoured post election. History tells me that a vast majority are broken. People forget how Shorten took power to dispose Julia Gillard's as PM!
