Further early detail about the flagship project reveals cattle and cane farms will be inundated and 50 homes will be resumed, with affected residents being door-knocked.

The Queensland government will keep other options open in case the flagship $12 billion pumped hydro portion of itsFifty homes are expected to be resumed should the five-gigawatt project west of Mackay, pitched as the world’s largest pumped-hydro site, go ahead.

The Pioneer-Burdekin project — tipped for completion by 2035 — would consume most of the $17 billion pumped hydro element within the $62 billion energy plan, broadly broken into three parts. The Queensland government hoped the Commonwealth would chip in for pumped hydro, but most of its federal lobbying would be in the generation category. Between the Albanese government and the private sector, Queensland hoped for $17 billion in this space.

A dam wall is proposed for the upper reach of the basin between the larger, elevated town of Eungella on the Clarke Range and Cattle Creek, before it forms the Pioneer River about 25 kilometres downstream.

Qld’s pumped hydro projects not enough to replace coal powerQueensland’s plan for two new pumped hydro projects won’t be enough to fill the gap from the loss of coal-fired power stations by 2035, according to energy experts. Of course. This is a load of coal baron's codswallop. Rooftop solar continued growth. Home/commercial batteries RE farm growth, hydrogen will also combine to replace coal. It works by the consumer paying more for power. It always sound good in theory, but brace yourself. This is going to cost 2-3 time more than they tell us, and will be half as effective. QLD can't deliver a project on budget, and they never disclose things to the public.
