A top silk and a rich-lister are the latest Hawthorn locals to join a long-standing fight to protect heritage within Boroondara Council.

Hawthorn resident and top silk Neil Young, QC, argues that past failures to protect heritage were being used to justify passing over the Berkeley Street home, ironically because it is not part of a heritage precinct.

Rich-lister and philanthropist Graham Tuckwell sold the home several years ago with his wife Louise and family, and joined the campaign to protect it after moving back to Melbourne this year. The family also owned four neighbouring subdivided homes and sold them separately to 57 Berkeley Street to minimise the risk of it being knocked down and built over.Boroondara Council is exploring its options, with no avenue to appeal Mr Wynne's decision in May.

"I expect councils to follow their own expert advice when determining heritage protection and not play political games with our city’s planning."

Sound like its has social, historical and aesthetic value. Has anyone consulted HV? It only seems to mention the local council in the article. Despite that, its certainly its old enough to have archaeological value so could be added to the Inventory.
