It’s been a familiar sight in classrooms and doctors’ offices for decades — but there’s a bizarre reason why people now have a problem with it, writes hannahpaine_

Coupled with a trip to Healthy Harold’s van , most of us can trace our first lessons in nutrition and what not to eat down to a pyramid poster.

“We don’t actively have people lobbying us to make certain changes, so we’ve really just used the evidence that the dietary guidelines are based on.” Based on a Swedish “eat more and eat less” model invented in the 1970s, the pyramid model has been a popular teaching method in Australia since it was introduced here, Ms Hourigan said.

“So, the fact that the plant-based foods need to provide about 70 per cent of the energy in your diet, that’s an important message.”In 2015, the Australian food pyramid underwent its biggest transformation in more than three decades — introducing a fourth tier on the pyramid and moving grains to an eat-less category above fruit and vegetables.

hannahpaine_ Built by aliens?

hannahpaine_ Nah, you're kidding, right? I know Aust isn't that slow and behind the times. Ms Hourigan and her ilk are dinosaurs from the 1970's. Surely can't be involved in nutrition in the 2000's?

hannahpaine_ Did someone say the food pyramid was based on good science?

hannahpaine_ The food pyramid is based on science? Ha ha, that’s funny. Oh wait! You’re being serious! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

hannahpaine_ Err, maybe there's a problem with grains but well pi$$ off the grain industry if we say so. Turn pyramid up side down for health. lchf

hannahpaine_ 'so we've really jyst used the evidence ' .....ah, what evidence would that be MsHourigan? The journo didn't even ask that question!

Because it’s wrong

'A big problem': Health clinics in remote Aboriginal communities to close over ChristmasIt will take up to four hours for critically injured patients from these remote communities to reach health care if the NT Government pushes ahead with plans to close clinics. aparker349_andy Come on, we all know that Christmas is the safest time of the year, physically and emotionally. Yeah, this is outrageous! So does my doctors surgery. This is not unusual for country Aus. Even towns on major highways sometimes have no doctors over Christmas. Very serious truck & light vehicle crashes, plus general emergency etc but no doctors means travel to another town, sometimes hours away, sometimes on crap roads.
