Sky News host Peter Gleeson says one of the “bright lights” to emerge out of the coronavirus pandemic is the realisation among young people that having a job is a privilege and an opportunity not to be squandered.

“For millennials, this is their first recession, a glimpse at how life can get very tough indeed without a job,” Mr Gleeson said. “Yet the cushion of JobSeeker and JobKeeper has been there since March, meaning many young people – and the not so young – have been getting $750 a week to ride out this pandemic.

“That welfare soon goes, cut back to $600 a week for some, but wiped out altogether for others, although it’s likely Victoria will get an extension beyond March. Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday announced the government will means test recipients of the welfare. Australians will have to be actively looking for eight jobs a month and must accept “suitable work”, according to Mr Gleeson. “Now the best way to get off welfare is to get a job," he said.

Lefties with no jobs: Triggered

'The best part about this worldwide catastrophe is it is forcing the working class to shut up and accept their lot.' Absolutely normal human.

Ugh! How arrogant of Sky News host Peter Gleeson to suggest young people are insouciant about their lives. Young people have never been brighter and more passionate about their lives and the world as a whole. Silly man.

4 million unemployed and under 300,000 jobs which includes casual positions which any are. Stop being silly with this stuff! Scomo has put money into creating new jobs but they aren’t available just yet and likely won’t be for another 12 months

99% of unemploymed Australians would rather be working.
