China has derided the United States’ “so-called democracy”, claiming Washington has no right to push its system around the world with a “condescending air of arrogance”.

A recent Ipsos poll showed 36 per cent of Americans believed the US democracy was “in crisis”, with half saying it was facing “serious challenges”.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry used the recent polling to attack the United States for what it claimed to be American foreign interference. Beijing also expressed frustrations with the United States using the “banner of democracy to form small cliques” to target other nations. Meanwhile, nations across the globe have joined the United States and the World Health Organisation in calling for Beijing to welcome a second COVID-19 origins study in Wuhan.

“The US ought to heed the appeal of its people, reflect on itself, and acknowledge and solve problems with its own democracy.”
