Despite all signs pointing to a Liberal victory on election night, the battle for Bass continues with just a handful of votes separating the major party candidates.

Mr Hart said he would be open to running for election again in the future, but would seek other employment in the meantime.Electoral analyst Kevin Bonham said based on the national swing, he had expected Labor to just hold on in Bass."We have seen a resurgence of the north-south divide," Dr Bonham said.

"During the campaign, when Labor made its MONA funding announcement, a lot of people said 'Tasmania's changed, people are not so parochial, people understand funding for the south brings funding for the north'."Were they trying to get back the seat of Clark?The AEC is expected to begin counting postal votes for Bass on Monday.
