Barnaby Joyce says he will put his hand up for The Nationals leadership should Michael McCormack's position be spilled in the wake of the 'sports rorts' scandal.

Barnaby Joyce will challenge Michael McCormack for the leadership of the National Party if the position is spilled in the wake of the sports rorts scandal.

"There is no vacancy for the leadership, at the moment, of the National Party," he told reporters at Parliament House. With Senator McKenzie stepping down as deputy there will be a ballot for her position, but it is up to the Nationals' partyroom as to whether there is a leadership spill. "We had the maximum number of cabinet ministers we ever had, we won back more seats than we had in about 30 years, we delivered some big changes," Mr Joyce said.

"Barnaby Joyce just told us that the National Party is dysfunctional and indeed hopeless. My concern is that a dysfunctional government just got a whole lot more dysfunctional," Mr Fitzgibbon said.Meanwhile, Labor says it will pursue the sports rorts scandal through a Senate inquiry, despite Ms McKenzie's resignation from cabinet.

One might suggest that Barnaby is not wrong in wanting to be leader again. Ambition is a good human condition He is however wrong if he thinks his resurrection will somehow improve the image or standing of the party. Sometimes remaining dead is a better option than being Lazarus

Still putting his hand up in the hope of getting to the goodies. Hasn’t he learnt what the outcome of that can be? Just heard Michelle Laundrie speaking of the party having to “move a motion”. Isn’t this a medical term used to describing a bowel movement? Fits Joyce.

SBS Nut job

OMG PLEASE NO!

He must be joking

'because that extra bit of nausea is what Australian politics need right now'

No, I cannot believe he was reelected, if people in the country are going to vote for these people they can expect more of the same and possibly deserve it.

vichygirl It’s time to mow the lawn ...

The man who brought us this, and then tried to cover it up...

I read that as 'put his hand up the Nationals'. wouldn't put it past the pickled beetrooter.
