Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the evidence given by former NSW premier John Barilaro at a parliamentary inquiry into his appointment to a US trade role is “politically quite damaging” for Premier Dominic Perrottet.

Mr Clennell said Mr Barilaro revealed “he had two conversations with Dominic Perrottet and one in fact with Matt Kean the Treasurer about applying for this job in New York”.

“Those conversations with Dominic Perrottet, the first one at least occurred when he was still in the parliament, he’s saying he is resigning from parliament – at no time does Dominic Perrottet protest that this is not a good idea,” Mr Clennell said.
