NBL rookie Josh Giddey has the NBA draft fast approaching but his exceptional season could see him earn a berth with the Boomers at the Tokyo Olympics. | rpjward

Boomers coach Brian Goorjian admits there is uncertainty around who will play for Australia at the delayed Tokyo Games, but he is seriously considering 18-year-old guard Josh Giddey for a place at this year’s Olympic basketball tournament.

and NBL rookie Giddey who again impressed the Boomers coach when he faced Goorjian’s Illawarra Hawks in the NBL Cup on Thursday night., had 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists as his Adelaide 36ers lost to the Hawks 98-89. “But there are so many balls going up and down right now with who will be available, who won’t be available and whether we will have that luxury or not but he’s somebody I’m taking seriously.”Goorjian also praised Giddey comparing his rookie season to that of Australian legend Andrew Gaze in the early 1980s.
