The next tranche of assistance is expected to be announced later in the week, so the government can fast-track its passage through the parliament. Meanwhile, Qantas has announced it will slash international capacity by 90 per cent until at least the end of May as demand plummets amid the coronavirus crisis. Domestic capacity will also be reduced by about 60 per cent as the airline grounds around 150 aircraft.

And many, many people will lose their lives. 😥 This is primarily a health crisis.

They haven't released the 1st stimulus yet.

Of course he did. Classic LNP.

Sounds to me like a win situation for those already unemployed, as on the upturn they will get an opportunity!

'We are heading for a deep global recession' | Sky News AustraliaFormer treasurer Wayne Swan has told Sky News Australia he believes “we are heading for a deep global recession”. \n\nIn order to prevent the country from slipping into recession, Mr Swan said the Morrison government must “act; act decisively and act quickly”. \n\n“In many ways, it does mirror what happened through the Global Financial Crisis, which in itself became a deep global recession and threatened to become the Great Depression part two,” he said on Tuesday. \n\n“To begin with, the government was slow out of the blocks,” he said. \n\n“They had the governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia last year advising them last year to stimulate the economy because it was very weak and consumption was low, and they didn’t take that advice then so we go into this episode far weaker than we should have been had they acted last year.” \n\nDespite this, Mr Swan said he supported the government’s $17.6 billion stimulus package which was announced last week. \n\n“I think we should be doing everything we possibly can to avoid a deep recession because it destroys lives, it destroys communities and it destroys productive capacity,” he said. \n\nHe advised the government to “listen closely to officials, consult widely and consult internationally”. \n\n“The costs of inaction are greater than the costs of action,” he said. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia SwannyQLD My mother-in-law who is 86 and has played the markets most of her life, said yesterday that she predicts another depression... not recession but depression.
