A jury in Chicago has found a Sydney-based company wilfully infringed a trademark registered in California.

Australian ugg boot-maker Eddie Oygur has suffered a $US450,000 loss in his "David versus Goliath" legal fight with a major US footwear and apparel company.

Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Cosgrove present a toy kangaroo and a pair of small ugg boots to Prince Harry and his wife Meghan for Baby Sussex, now Archie Harrison Mountbaten-Windsor.After a four-day trial, Oygur was ordered to pay Deckers statutory damages of $US450,000 and he may face an order to pay millions more in legal costs.

"It has been a cruel blow," Australian lawyer and former senator Nick Xenophon, who is in Chicago supporting Oygur, said."Everything he has worked for in Australia for over 40 years has come to this."

Appalling decisions

Ugg is Aussie, always was, always will be.

If they come after Budgie Smugglers I’ll take up arms against them.

US judge, US court, US jury (if there was one) US big company taking on small OZ. company. Why are we all surpised?

LucknowSkinshop you don’t stock this brand do you?

MarieCo92176893 I'd would rather give birth to a chair...then be seen in such buozas!

Boo !!!!

WHERE was the Australian Government in this? WHERE were Australia rights and interests in this. Some a'hole in USA steals a common term in Australia and NewZealand and STOPS US USING IT TO DESCRIBE UGG BOOTS. The US 'protects' the US interest from enemy and ally alike!!

The best ‘justice’ money can buy.

MarieCo92176893 look who cares if ugg boots somthing every tannery in geelong used to make we have no tannerys now just 1 it does cow hides its foot wear poor people made in depression 3 peaces of sheep skin sown together made thousands of them not like they crowning achivement

Here nmarlor

‘Ugg boots’ and ‘Ugh boots’ are Aussie slang terms, and have been since at least 1970. Yanks can’t take over the word ‘boot’, so they can’t own the word ‘Ugg’ just because they bought one company that used the term. Bullies.

Just bought my second pair, in two weeks, from Blue Mountains Ugg boot company in Faulconbridge - been buying from them for years! Australian made and Australian owned.

EMU ugg boots in Geelong are great! The factory outlet in Geelong has great bargains if anyone is driving through...keep it in mind to stock up the family

We should sever diplomatic ties with that nation of swindlers. Anyone who grew up in Australia in the 60s knows ugg boots are as Aussie as Vegemite. Did the daffy jurors not think to check Wikipedia? Were they not told ours is a nation of 25 million people & 75 million sheep?

ffs

Primal scream coming in 3 - 2 - 1.................ARRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!! So sick of Big Business taking over and controlling our icons. We need to be far more savvy about the way we let our stuff go into foreign hands.

That sucks

boycott this company and only buy Australian made Ugg Boots. They will always be Australian

Deckers, as a brand and a company, needs to be banned from Australia

Australian shares and dollar hit by Trump's latest China tariff threatThe Australian dollar and share market are both being hit by US President Donald Trump's latest threat to reignite the trade war with China. 😁😁😁😁😁 Australia, fast becoming the poor man of Asia.
